Produce consistent pitches

How a tea towel can sharpen up your wedge play

Chest in control

For consistent pitch shots the body must work as one – the arms must not work independently and the wrists must not flick at the ball. By getting these wrong it is very difficult to gain any consistency and feel – the most likely bad shot will be a thinned approach. Sound familiar? Try this. Place a towel under your armpits and try and hit 50-yard pitches to encourage your chest, and not your arms, to lead ths shot. It will feel very strange at first but be sure to persist as it really helps.

Left arm to left side

Feel as if you are rotating your chest through the ball with the feeling of your left arm sticking to your left side. By having the towel tucked under your armpits is a very good tell-tale sign that you are getting this right.

Rotation, rotation

By playing the shot this way you will feel a much bigger rotation through the ball and it will pull your hips through into a balanced followthrough position.
