Turning three into two

Leaving yourself tricky five-footers under pressure is not recommended, so I want to show you how to avoid them by improving your long putting. Work on these tips and you will leave yourself fewer of those horror putts.

Getting a clear picture

When I practise I mark the spot from which I hit with a tee. This way I have a really good look at the putt from the both behind the ball and the reverse angle. Then I go to the mid-point on both sides and look at the slope. The point of all this research is to build a clear picture in your head of the green’s contours.
