Add the flop shot to your game

Much needed

The flop shot is one that everybody should play. Men and women alike have this preconception that only the professional can pull this shot off but everybody should learn to play it as you do face situations that demand it quite a lot on the course.

Arm and shaft

Choose your most lofted club, get the face wide open and have the ball positioned slightly forward of centre. The tendency is to try and flip the hands and scoop it in the air, which shuts the clubface and gets the club digging into the ground, so a good thing to think about is the leading arm and shaft accelerating into the ball together.

Hip hip hooray

I like to have a minimum of at least nine o'clock for the length of takeaway so the club needs to at least get past your hips.

Sky high

Make sure that the club face points to the sky all the way through the swing, especially in the followthrough. If you are struggling from sand try this technique with the face open and the club and left arm moving together.
