How to maximise your carry

How to get maximum distance in the wet

Standard practice

Whether it is wet or the wind is at your back this will help. Other than the height of the tee there is nothing that needs changing in the set-up – ball inside your left heel and grip the club as normal.

No tilting

You may have read that it is best to tilt the spine away from the target at address. I prefer to set up as normal and take the club away as I normally would. By trying to alter too much it is too easy to get out of position throughout the swing.

High and handsome

The way I add the height is to hang back as I am coming into the ball and release the club earlier. We can see from this photo that my head and weight is still behind the ball which helps to add the loft – and with it those extra yards. Quick tip: If you play somewhere wet try driving with a 3-wood to maximise carry
