Fire your acceleration

Lag is one of the most important factors of the golf swing as it can determine consistency, power and control. Tour players and good amateurs have lag in their swings which allows them to strike the ball with the maximum amount of acceleration. Although it is the key factor of having consistent play, a lot of club golfers lack this in their swing and this can lead to inconsistency.

Tie on a towel

Take your driver and tie a kitchen towel around the shaft close to the head.

Give it a rip

Take a few swings with the club at full speed. As you do you should feel your hands lead the clubhead through.

Feel the difference

Once you have taken a few swings remove the towel and the feeling you get when you swing should be different. The arms should feel as if they have more freedom and that they are in front of your body.
