Begin your downswing nice and gently

Gently does it

Many of you will not be as flexible or strong as the Italian but I urge you to begin your downswing gently. Just allow your hips to 'settle' back towards their address position – this will bring your left forearm down to approximately parallel with the ground. Maintain the flex in your left knee (don't jump at the ball) while, at the same time, rolling your forearms, trying to imagine that the toe end must overtake the heel end as the club gathers the ball.

Wrist watch

This is textbook. His lower body has instigated the downswing and his hips have returned almost to the address position. This has pulled the arms down but the majority of his torso is still behind the ball. Most notable is how strong his left wrist and forearm are. There is no buckling at wrist or elbow despite the huge power they are supporting from the hit with his right hand.

Chase the ball away

Allow your face to turn through. Do not stay looking down where the ball was and try to imagine the clubhead chasing the ball away while the clubface rotates away. Despite nearing the end of the swing his right heel is only just leaving the ground proving that he has stayed behind it.
