IT is fair to say that the previous generation of AP1s were somewhat overshadowed by their stablemate, the AP2s. So Titleist have returned with a new and improved version in time for next season. The AP1 is Titleist’s most forgiving iron, and as such is aimed predominantly at eight to 15 handicappers. But compared to the original, these feel much more like Titleist irons. Why? Because the short irons are more compact and traditionally shaped while the sound and feel throughout the set are much more responsive. So what you now get is a club that offers genuine forgiveness in the longer irons with a rounded, oversized head that really wants to launch the ball for you. While the shorter irons give you the confidence to feel you can strike them with precision. They would be ideal for those who have always fancied a set of Titleists without being quite convinced they were good enough to use them.
