Ping staff players Bubba Watson and Louis Oosthuizen have been spotted using the new Ping iBlade irons (that’s what we believe they are called) in their practice rounds at the US Open.
The irons had previously been spotted at the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass last month.
Both Watson and Oosthuizen took to the course at Oakmont in preparation for the 2016 event with the irons which will be released later this summer.
The new compact bladed irons will replace the Ping S55 which had been previously used by the pair.
We’ll be keeping an eye out to see if fellow Ping staffers Lee Westwood, Andy Sullivan and Hunter Mahan follow suit.
The iBlades look a bit like cavity-back or even muscle-back irons and we can see the custom tuning port – a thermoplastic elastomer weight which optimises centre of gravity and controls vibrations – is lower and wider than in their previous players irons.
They also have a similar minimal look to the Ping Glide wedges which have been very popular among Ping tour players.
More details on the irons will be released by Ping later this summer but we can expect that there will a number of other technological advancements as we know the brand don’t do new for new’s sake.
