Thriston Lawrence has become one of the best players on the DP World Tour and is slowly proving to crack the code on the global stage.
He was a four-time winner on the DP World Tour by the time he looked set to win The Open at Royal Troon in 2024. He was in contention on Sunday until the superb Xander Schauffele took the Claret Jug in impressive style.
Lawrence turned professional in 2014 and won for the first time on the formerly-named European Tour in 2021 at the Joburg Open, his home country. He went on to win in front of his home fans again at the Investec South African Open Championship in 2022.
His most recent win came at the BMW International Open in Munich in 2023. He has become a name which is always seen at the top of DP World Tour leaderboards and it feels like only a matter of time until he progresses to win on the PGA Tour.
The South African has Ping clubs all the way through his bag, beginning with the Ping G430 Max at the top of his bag. He follows this with a Ping G430 Max, interestingly passing on a 3-wood.
We understand that Lawrence uses a Ping G410 Crossover as a utility club and Ping iBlade irons from 6 iron to a pitching wedge. It’s understood Lawrence also uses a 4 and a 5 iron in the Ping i230 model.
Lawrence has three Ping 4.0 wedges and he rounds off his bag and the Ping PLD Oslo 4 Prototype. He is one of many staffers Ping has on the books from the top of the game such as Viktor Hovland, Tony Finau and Sahith Theegala.
