LIV Golf reportedly shunned by TV giant for being ‘too toxic’
LIV Golf has reportedly been rejected by Apple TV over a potential broadcast deal after it deemed the breakaway league to be “too toxic” – one source has learned.
According to Dan Rapaport of Barstool Sports, the TV giant turned down the chance to air LIV Golf for its revamped 2023 season, which includes a new schedule, additional events, and you guessed it, more money.
“[A] well-placed source says Apple TV has turned down the opportunity to broadcast LIV Golf as it is ‘too toxic’.” Rapaort said on Twitter. “Still not clear where LIV will be broadcast in 2023.”
As it stands, LIV Golf continues to be streamed for free on YouTube around the world and on DAZN in the US, with uninterrupted coverage and no adverts.
But despite the seemingly never-ending supply of cash at Greg Norman’s disposal, securing a TV deal continues to stand as a crucial next step in legitimising LIV further and maintaining its longevity.
So if reports are to be true, we now know it won’t be Apple TV, nor the likes of CBS, NBC and ESPN, who are all locked in with the PGA Tour.
Other rumours suggest Fox Sports stands as the most likely avenue for a LIV Golf TV deal. The channel has already conducted interviews with both Norman and Bryson DeChambeau, and saw its former President David Hill hired by LIV Golf earlier this year as part of its production team.
But for now, the quest for a broadcast deal continues.
