Is Molas Overview | NCG Top 100 European Golf Resorts

27 Incredible Holes

Is Molas, like a lot of other venues on the NCG Top 100 European Golf Resorts list, has two courses. It is the home to the 18-hole Championship Course and the 9-hole Yellow Course.

Championship Course
The Championship Course was laid out in the early 1970s, before opening in 1975. Sir Henry Cotton and Frank Pennink were the men involved in the golf course, which is a Par 72 lay-out, and comes close to 7,000 yards from the back tees.

The opening hole is a gentle par-5 to ease players into the round, at just 500 yards. However, both par-3s on the front nine are more than 200 yards from the back tees. Four of the par-4s on the opening side measure more than 400 yards to make you aware of how tough this course will be.

The only water hazard on the golf course comes at the turn, with both the 9th and the 10th playing across water. It comes in on the approach shot on the final hole of the front nine, while 10 is a 190-yard par-3, played entirely over water. There are back-to-back par-5s at 15 and 16 to offer scoring opportunities before the tough final two holes.

Only a year after opening the golf course hosted the Open de Italia on the DP World Tour for the first time. Home favourite Baldovino Dassu delighted the crowds with the win, while Mark James, Ian Poulter and Gregory Havret have all been successful on the Championship Course at Is Molas.

Yellow Course
Franco Piras was the man to design the 9-hole course - the Yellow Course - at Is Molas. The 9-hole lay-out sits at the northwestern corner of the resort, and features several holes that have water hazards on.

The 8th hole is the signature hole on the Yellow Course, with golfers having to carry their tee shot all the way to the green over water. There is also a bunker at the back of the green to collect any shots that are too safe.

Dan Williamson Academy

Dan Williamson is the man behind the golf academy at Is Molas, and he is the third generation of his family to become a golf instructor. The Academy at Is Molas is the only one in Sardinia that uses TrackMan technology.

There is a lengthy driving range at the Is Molas Golf Resort, with a row of grass tees playing away from the clubhouse. There is also a large putting green and a chipping area as part of the short game facilities at Is Molas, with the latter featuring a bunker to allow for sand play.

Williamson and his team of professionals at Is Molas offer a range of coaching and tuition options aimed at all golfers. From those first learning the game to experienced golfers aiming to improve their swings, there is something for everyone at the Dan Williamson Academy.

He uses the aforementioned TrackMan technology to his advantage. The tech allows Williamson and his team to analyse the golf swing, which makes it easier to provide help and input to bring handicaps and scores down.

4-Star Accommodation

The Is Molas Resort is the home to the Is Molas Hotel, which is the 4-star accommodation offering at the resort. The hotel has a range of 70 rooms, which all come in different forms to suit all parties.

Every choice at the Is Molas Hotel comes with its own private balcony, veranda or terrace. The Classic Rooms are the most basic offering, but they still come with all the mod-cons and amenities that guests would expect of a 4-star hotel. There are then Superior and Deluxe Rooms to add another layer of luxury, and they have all been recently refurbished.

The Family Rooms are the perfect option for those families of four (two adults, two children) with rooms coming equipped with a double bed and two twin beds. There are also a range of both Junior Suites and Suites, with the latter privy to a hydromassage tub in its bathroom.

There are also a stunning array of private villas on offer at the Is Molas Resort, the smallest of which still has two bedrooms and three bathrooms. The largest of the selection, the Villa Palas, can sleep ten people, and has its own private 100 square metre swimming pool while the option of a private chef can also be added onto a package.

Sports & Activities

There is not just golf on offer at the Is Molas Resort either. A range of other activities can be enjoyed by guests at the resort. Horse riding, mountain biking, cycling and trekking are also a part of the resort’s offerings, with the natural reserve of Piscina Manna nearby.

Every day during the summer months, there are off-road excursions as well. These trips involve being taken out in a Land Rover and enjoying the region’s beaches and artistic monuments. Water sports are a big part of the resort’s offering as well, with boat hire among the choices for guests.
