The Heritage | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts
The Heritage is one of Ireland’s leading golf resorts, and the only Irish venue to host a golf course that was designed by Seve Ballesteros. Along with the 18-hole layout, The Heritage is also home to a luxurious health club and spa, along with plenty of choice when it comes to rooms and suites in the hotel, or even a penthouse apartment.
Ballesteros’ only Irish golf course, The Heritage is a Par 72 layout that opened in 2004. The Spaniard designed the track alongside Jeff Howes, with water coming into play on ten of the 18 holes. It can play as far as 7,300 yards from the back tees, making it a challenge for both professionals and amateurs. There is also a full-length driving range and wonderful short game area to add to the golfing landscape at the resort.
The Health Club and Spa is the perfect place for those guests that want to relax and unwind, and for those that fancy getting a workout in during their time at The Heritage. On the fitness side of things, there is a fully equipped gym with the latest TechnoGym equipment, along with a swimming pool, sauna and steam room. For those looking to destress, the spa section of the facility offers a wide variety of massages and treatments from qualified professionals.
Rooms, suites and apartments are available for guests to stay in during their time in County Laois. Five types of rooms and suites are on offer in the hotel. Deluxe, Superior and Superior Family are the three room options, while the Junior Suites and Family Suites are the more luxurious offerings. There are also five Penthouse Apartments, which supply a glorious self-catering stay for larger groups.

The Heritage Overview | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts
A Seve Special
One of just a few designs by the great man in Great Britain & Ireland, the 18-hole golf course at The Heritage is certainly one of Seve Ballesteros’ best. The Spaniard co-designed the course with Jeff Howes, with the layout opening in 2004. Water is in play on ten holes, while there are almost 96 bunkers that have been crafted into the course for you to avoid.
The Par 72 layout can run as far as 7,300 yards from the tips, but can also play as short as 5,750 yards, so there is plenty of choice for golfers of all abilities. With both the 9th and 18th holes finding their way back to the clubhouse, golfers can play just nine holes at The Heritage if they wish. The front nine sits on the northern side of the venue, with the southern part of the resort taken up by the second nine. Both the 9th and 18th holes wind their way around the same water feature – 9 to the left of it and the closing hole to the right. They are similar holes and offer up a real challenge to the end of both nines.
The 2nd provides the first water hazard on the course, with a blue lagoon to the left of the green on this long par 5, one that might put some players off going for the green in two. The 4th is a par 3 of more than 210 yards and played over a large lake. The bail out if left, but two bunkers await anything that goes long of the green. 12 bunkers are in your way on the par 5 10th hole, with nine of those surrounding the green. Basically, if you don’t find the putting surface, you’re going to be in the sand.
Health Club and Spa
The Health Club at The Heritage is a stunning facility, and features a 15-metre indoor swimming pool, along with a jacuzzi, while both male and female changing rooms have their own saunas and steam rooms. The fitness suite has state-of-the-art TechnoGym equipment, including cardio and resistance machines, along with free weights.
The facility also has a fitness studio, and a wide range of classes on offer each week. For those that like to get out and about, there is also a groundlit walking track around the championship golf course at The Heritage, one that stretches for around three miles. Walking, jogging, and cycling can all be enjoyed on this scenic trail. The Heritage Spa offers guests a range of massages and treatments, all given by a team of qualified professionals.
Rooms, Suites and Apartments
There is plenty to choose from when it comes to accommodation at The Heritage, with a sublime range of rooms, suites and apartments available to all guests. The rooms and suites in the hotel all come with a range of amenities, including complimentary water, a walk-in shower, Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs.
Five types of rooms and suites are in The Heritage’s accommodation portfolio. The Deluxe King and Superior King are the main offerings at the hotel, while the Superior Family Room provides ample space for two adults and two children to share a private space. The Junior Suites and Family Suites are the most luxurious options at the hotel, with both coming with dining table and chairs, lounge area and bedroom, all separated.
There is also a selection of five glorious Penthouse Apartments, each of which has been named after a world-famous golf course.
