Meet the NCG team
Meet the National Club Golfer team...
Dan Murphy – Sports Publications’ editorial director is an undisputed lover of links golf. He recently played 13 rounds in eight days on a trip to the north, west and east coasts of Ireland. His pitching was arguably even worse on his return than when he set off. Dan plays off a handicap of three at Alwoodley and can recite a phenomenal number of arcane statistics about the Open Championship.
Mark Townsend – Has a handicap of 8 at Headingley due to a wonky short game, general timidness and mental fragility. Has an encyclopaedic knowledge of golf in the mid to late 80s.
Steve Carroll – Steve is National Club Golfer’s man in the clubhouse. He is convinced one day he will reach a single figure handicap. Until that time, he’ll continue to struggle off 12 and three-putt his way around courses all over the country.
James Savage – Equipment editor. Plays off 17 at Moor Allerton but hasn’t managed a competition round in two years. Prone to a driver change every couple of weeks and has more spikeless golf shoes than your average pro shop.
James Broadhurst – NCG’s production editor is a wary novice in the golfing world. Drawing on his poor performances as a junior at Hexham and an outstanding career on Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 on the Playstation 2, James is slowly working his way towards gaining his first handicap.
Craig Middleton – NCG’s digital journalist just loves to get out and play golf. Playing off a very debatable 18 handicap at Moor Allerton GC, Craig struggles to put two good rounds together but when he does, questions are quickly asked from a certain Staff writer.
Joe Urquhart – NCG’s social media man. Loves golf just can’t play it very well, therefore the handicap is better off left out of the discussion. Lover of Fife, jangly guitars and anything to do with a ball.
