All the Gear: Thomas Pieters lights up Augusta

Latest news

Equipment editor James Savage rounds up all the gear stories from the 2017 Masters

Thomas Pieters has been lighting up the course at Augusta in more ways than one.

The lanky Belgian has made one of the most impressive Masters debuts in recent years – picking up where he left off at the Ryder Cup.

As well as some stunning golf, his flashy Nike shoes caught the eye on day two of the 2017 Masters.

Pieters, who signed a shoe and clothing deal with Nike last year, plumped for a bright red pair of Nike Lunar Command 2 shoes.

A Callaway staff player when it comes to hardware, Pieters uses the GBB Epic Driver and Apex Pro irons.

His putter is a little bit more funky – a custom Toulon Odyssey San Diego.

He has the colours of the Belgian flag on the heel with T. Pieters engraved behind the toe.

The Toulon putters are a super-premium option offered by Callaway and come complete with some really snazzy head cover options.

FootJoy Pro SL a popular choice

Early pace setter Charley Hoffman has been among the many players in the field sporting the FootJoy Pro SL shoes.

It was virtually unheard of five years ago for so many players to be wearing spikeless shoes.

Other wearers of the shoe which hit pro shops this spring, include Lee Westwood, Adam Scott, Danny Willett, Louis Oosthuizen and Branden Grace.

Can you do better than Andy Sullivan?

We’ve been keeping an eye on Andy Sullivan’s FootJoy Icons this week.

Utilising the FootJoy MyJoys service, the Englishman had a white, green and black pair on the go in round one.

And on Friday he brandished another custom pair with a splash of red. We know the Nuneaton man is a big Liverpool fan so no surprises there.

Think you can do better? Why not enter our competition to design Sullivan’s shoes for the BMW PGA at Wentworth this May?

Danny Willett ups his (wardrobe) game

Not many people knew what to expect when Danny Willett singed a deal with luxury sportswear company Descente earlier this year.

The brand, who specialise in skiwear, were effectively making their major debut this week.

English Masters

Sorry but it was a thumbs down on Thursday as the defending champion looked kitted out more for a drum n’ bass gig than the fairways of Augusta.

But there was a marked improvement with this outfit on Friday.

Nike player in Nike clubs shocker

We’ve been paying close attention to the gear used by former Nike hardware players ever since the brand announced they were no longer making clubs.

The likes of McIlroy, Fisher, Vegas, Casey and Henley have switched their Nike clubs out in favour of other brands.

But England’s Tommy Fleetwood is sticking with what he knows for now with the Vapor Fly woods, VR Forged and VR Pro irons.

Another bizarre choice from Jimmy Walker

Round one saw the minty green trousers, round two saw the all black outfit including black FootJoy glove.

Jimmy Walker

We know that the PGA champion is a FootJoy StaSof man, but they don’t come in black so we can only assume he’s asked for a custom version or gone for the cold-weather Wintersof.

Either way, we’re not sure the look is quite ‘you’, Jimmy.
