Team outfits are a big part of the Solheim Cup, but which team had the best footwear? Equipment editor Hannah Holden gives her take
Team Europe took a slender lead at the end of the first day at the Solheim Cup, but the golf wasn’t the only thing catching the eye. Both teams were dressed to the nines in their respective team kits but one detail of the outfit was left down to the players themselves – footwear. So which team did it best? It’s time for our Solheim Cup of shoes.
Best Solheim Cup footwear:
Pettersen/Van Dam vs. Kang/Salas
Anne van Dam’s golf dominated her opponents in her Solheim debut and the Americans didn’t stand a chance in the shoe showdown either. These beauties from Nike take team Europe firmly into the lead.
Europe: 1
USA: 0
Nordqvist/Hedwall vs. McDonald/Yin
The simple, delicate detailing of both players’ shoes in this USA pairing could not be a larger contrast to those donned by the Europeans. There’s much to be said for both sides so here so we’ll have to say this match is halved – an outcome this European pairing could only have dreamed of on Friday.
Europe: 1.5
USA: 0.5
Hull/Munoz vs. Thompson/J.Korda
You’ll struggle to find a duo sporting two pairs of shoes more patriotic than these. Lexi’s Pumas are a highlight, I’m sure Rickie Fowler is jealous. The footwear game was strong from USA in this match – no wonder they were smiling!
Europe: 1.5
USA: 1.5
Law/Ciganda vs. N.Korda/Altomare
Four strong styles were on display in this fourball. The red velcro G-Fore’s from Nelly were a personal favourite, they are unlike anything you see on a regular basis. But on the other hand, these were definitely matched by the blue Adidas gems worn by Ciganda. It has to be a half.
Europe: 2
USA: 2
So there you have it, both sides upped their game when it came to footwear on Friday. Which shoes were your favourite? Let me know in the comments below or tweet me.
