Ping Bradley shorts review

Looking to update your summer wardrobe? Jonathan Taylor has put the Ping Bradley shorts to the test.

Ping has a well-deserved reputation for technical innovation in golf club manufacture but the brand also has a strong apparel offering. Here we test the Ping Bradley shorts to see how they perform.

Ping Bradley shorts review: NCG Summary

stars
NCG SUMMARY

These shorts tick all the boxes. They fit and perform really well.

The Bradley shorts come highly recommended and are getting lots of use from me out on the golf course this season.

PROS

  • Very comfortable and stretchy.
  • Excellent fit.
  • Huge range of colours

CONS

  • Nothing!

First Impressions

It’s difficult to get too excited about a pair of shorts. Out of the bag, these looked to be nicely tailored and well-constructed, as you would expect from the brand. The Bradley shorts are made from 100% polyester in Ping’s Sensorcool fabric. Sensorcool provides crease resistance, moisture management and UV protection.

These shorts also felt nice and stretchy. They are fitted with Tekfit technology, which is said to provide 2 inches of stretch at the waistband. I can’t really see the point of this because there is a range of fittings from 30 to 44-inch waist, so it should be pretty easy to find the right size. There is a standard inside leg measurement of 25cm (just under 10 inches).

Ping Bradley shorts review

A subtle Ping logo sits just above the right rear pocket. There is an impressive choice of no less than ten colours in the Bradley, and I must confess to a tinge of regret that I picked the navy rather than one of the more exotic options!

On the plus side, the navy does go with most of my polo shirts. Ok, that’s enough preamble. How did they go on the course?

On-course testing

I am a pretty consistent 32-inch waist in trousers and shorts. I was actually supplied with a 34-inch waist garment which was a little on the large size. But it worked fine with a belt. So I think it’s fair to say that this will fit true to size. And the Tekfit stretch waistband will allow a little leeway. For me, the shorts were just the right length. I can imagine that particularly tall, long-legged types might find them a little on the short side.

There is, as you would expect, a gripper tape waistband to ensure that your shirt stays tucked in. The pocket configuration is pretty standard, with two large side pockets and two roomy rear pockets.

This garment comes in ten colours, so you’re sure to find something to suit your favoured style.

And I think one of the reasons that I default to wearing shorts in the summer months is that Ping (and other manufacturers) now produce a range of really smart-looking shorts so you don’t look like you’ve come from a Boy Scouts jamboree.

The 19th hole

The subtle branding and stylish fit mean that these shorts are equally at home on and off the course. And I’ve certainly worn them for plenty of non-golf activities.

They have been through the washing machine on a number of occasions, don’t need ironing and are crease-resistant. So for the flexibility of use allied to the quality of the product, these golf shorts gets five stars, and I regard them as excellent value.

The Bradley shorts come highly recommended and are getting lots of use from me out on the golf course this season.
