Titleist Cart 14 StaDry Golf Bag Review
How does the new Titleist Cart 14 StaDry Golf Bag perform? Ian Backhouse got his garden hose out to find out!
After enduring what can only be described as a long, wet winter that seemed to last at least 8 months, the arrival of a waterproof golf bag to review was actually quite exciting as the thought of enduring another round in the rain with my porous old bag full of carrier bags to keep my gear dry was not appetising.
Titleist bags have always looked great, especially emblazoned with the Titleist logo and in iconic colours; combine this with the StaDry technology. Read on to find out below how I got on testing this out and whether I thought it could be the one to keep my tackle dry this winter.

First Impressions
This is no small golf bag but surprisingly weighs in at only 2.7kgs. It comes in 8 different colours and I was really pleased to receive one in Black/Black/Red which makes the Titleist logo in white stand out on the black background.
As I started unpacking it and taking out all the packaging from the various pockets, I was beginning to wonder what I would fill it with! There are no less than 9 pockets (including a large insulated drinks pocket), 2 pouches for umbrellas, 2 ring attachments for towels, 2 side drinks holders, 2 sleeves for pen/pencils and 2 velcro glove landing patches – all this leading to equal amounts of storage at either side of the bag – especially helpful if you strap it in to a buggy and its snug up against someone else’s bag.
Pretty serious storage and as the bag is of StaDry waterproof construction with seam sealed zip closures, as I transferred my normal golf bag gear across my mind started to drift to the new things I could take out on the course with me like a thermal flask, more towels, extra layers etc which would have made last winter a lot more endurable with everything dry and more accessible.

Next to load in were my clubs. There are 14 dividers for clubs that run the full length of the bag and one of these is larger and at the front of the bag for your putter. It’s been a while since I’ve used a bag with dividers and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the divider as on this latest version of this bag the divider has a velour feel to it and will definitely protect those with expensive golf clubs.
I then had a bit of a brainwave – A long time ago; someone told me that if you returned a set of Galvin Green waterproofs – which had a lifetime guarantee, they used a hosepipe to see if they did actually leak – What a great idea for testing a waterproof golf bag!
Without further ado, I took off the single strap (not without risk I guess if my trolley battery goes flat) and attached the included rain hood. Loaded the bag onto my old motocaddy trolley (no problems with it fitting) and wheeled my new all waterproof bag complete with clubs, gloves, balls, tees etc etc round to the back of my house to give the bag a drenching with the hose!
Maybe this should be the industry standard for testing the waterproofness of golf bags as there is no way your bag can withstand a good hosing and your stuff remains dry unless the golf bag is genuinely leak-free, and so this was definitely the case with the Titleist. The water just ran off the bag, and after a few minutes of this, I unzipped the pockets, checked on my gloves, towels, etc, and not a drop had got in. A quick point to note: there are a couple of sturdy plastic handles at the top of the bag, which, alongside the large carry handle where the bag strap sits, makes manoeuvring the bag in and out of the boot really easy. The next stop is the golf course.
Having arrived at my local club in North Leeds, the sky was looking bright, but too many disappointing weather forecasts didn’t stop me loading up plenty of extra kit into the bag for what has become the inevitable shower. There was a bit of banter from the lads about the shiny new bag on the rather dated trolley, and off we went. 5 holes later and it started to drizzle, a wry smile as I took out my pristine and dry spare glove, wiped my clubs down with one of my backup (!) towels and carried on as if nothing was happening whilst the lads started the continual weather chat that has become a regular feature of our games this year.
11 holes in, and still fine rain was falling, I had a bite of a sandwich I brought along and a quick drink and reflected on the fact that usually when you put wet clubs back in your bag, clubs you hadn’t used also got wet, not got that problem with this bag. 18 holes and of course the rain stopped as we trudged up the last, in the car park as I loaded the car I took out of the bag the big 3 – wallet, phone, keys and no damp on these so a big tick from me on the waterproof front. A few enquiries from the guys about the bag is always a good sign, and as I drove home, I reflected on how I had disadvantaged myself over the winter by not having a waterproof and big enough bag for all the kit I could have with me and how much better prepared you could be.
Overall a great bag for all weather types – Light, roomy and does a great job of protecting your clubs – well worth considering if you are in the market for a new bag and thinking about our ongoing weather challenges.
