Woods, McIlroy and Scott grouped together at Merion
The world’s top three players have been grouped together for next week’s US Open at Merion.
The USGA revealed via twitter that Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Masters champion Adam Scott will play together over the course of the first two rounds.
It is the third year in succession that US Open officials have paired the top three ranked players in the world.
Other noteworthy pairings include Americans Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker and Keegan Bradley, while Luke Donald and Lee Westwood will begin their quest for a maiden Major title alongside former world number one Martin Kaymer.
Top ranked Brit Justin Rose has been paired with Matt Kuchar and Brandt Snedeker, while 2010 champion Graeme McDowell will play the first two rounds with fellow major winners Jim Furyk and Zach Johnson.
Much has been made of Sergio Garcia’s fallout with world number one Woods heading into the event. But the pair will avoid each other for the first two rounds at least, as Garcia tees off alongside Padraig Harrington and Stewart Cink.
