Women's British Open: All the reaction from day oneAugust 1, 2013 Golf News
The best quotes from Thursday
Lydia Ko am (-3)
I had a birdie on the 1st hole and that kind of makes me nervous because most of the time I make a birdie it hasn’t gone my way. After the double on the 7th I felt really, really mad inside and was kind of boiling away. I think birdie on the next was good.
Morgan Pressel (-6)
I saw (Solheim assistant) Laura Diaz on the 3rd green and I made birdie on 15 and she gave me a little thumbs up. I’ve had a few players on the team send me notes, focus on your game, telling me you know what you can do and don’t worry about it.

When you wake up at 4am for a 6.52 tee time you don’t really know what to expect. I only really brought out my umbrella once but, then again, I’m a person that it has to be dumping rain for me to even use one.
My caddy Colin is so good out there. He knows every number known to man and I really trust his targets. The last couple of years haven’t been terrible but we’ve stuck together and it’s team work. It’s not all about me, it’s about both of us.
‘When you wake up at 4am for a 6.52 tee time you don’t really know what to expect’ – Paula Creamer Stacy Lewis (-5)
I was up at 4.30 for a tee time before 7am and I think that’s probably the earliest actual time I’ve had. I birdied the 1st but played the rest of the nine in one over, it all turned on the 11th and from there I played solid. To come away shooting five under on the back nine, I don’t care if it’s calm or windy, it’s a good score.
Karrie Webb and I were on the 10th green and we saw a leaderboard for the first time and I think Inbee was five under through eight and we just looked at it for the same time and looked at each other and shook our heads. It’s like she keeps doing it over and over and over again.

It’s a super-cool course, the whole week is a lot of prep for it. The last 12 holes I took driver twice. Your misses are on the green. You might have a 60-footer but you prefer that than chipping over the mounds or bunkers. To be able to look backwards as you’re playing and go, oh you can play the course this way too, down the opposite way, it’s just a phenomenal course.

I’ve got a local caddy this week and I just let him read the putts and hit it where he told me to and I hit a lot of good putts that dropped.
