WITB: Jordan Spieth, Tour Championship
Jordan Spieth closed out his sensational season with a four-shot win at the Tour Championship, using a full bag of Titleist clubs.
The 22-year-old claimed his fifth PGA Tour title of the season, clinching the $10m FedEx bonus and moving to the top of the world rankings.
Spieth missed the cut in the first two FedEx play-off events but went into Sunday with a one-shot advantage over Henrik Stenson. After a slow start he birdied 8, 9 and 11, the last from nearly 50 feet. Stenson’s race was finally run when he shanked one from the middle of the 17th fairway.
“This is an event we approached like a major championship, Spieth said.
I didn’t have a great play-off, but I put a lot into this week. Mentally, I stayed in it.
And boy, that putter sure paid off.”
