Who won what and where: Broberg sneaks home in China

Hundred wins for Sweden on the European Tour

European Tour: BMW Masters – Kristoffer Broberg

Broberg became the 100th Swedish winner on the European Tour after claiming his first title with a play-off birdie against Patrick Reed.
The 29-year-old, who won four times on the Challenge Tour in 2012, closed with a four-under 68 while Reed, who pitched in with a 97-yard bunker shot for an eagle at the 15th and then birdied the next, crucially dropped one on 17.
The pair went back down the 18th and Broberg holed a 15-footer to move just outside the top 60 in the world.
Thongchai Jaidee had begun the day with a one-shot lead and he had a putt on the last to force his way into the play-off, as did Byeong-hun An, but both men had to settle for a share of third at 16 under alongside Lucas Bjerregaard and Henrik Stenson.
Danny Willett finished in a tie for 28th to close the gap on Rory McIlroy to just 1,613 points.

What Broberg said: “I worked so hard all my life for this. I’m just so happy to win on the main tour, because I won four times on the Challenge Tour.  I’m just so happy to win, because I worked so hard all year.
“Patrick’s short game was unbelievable all day. I was playing really good the front nine, and I was struggling a bit, a little nervous. On the last the four last holes, I was really, really nervous.”

LPGA Tour: Lorena Ochoa Invitational – Inbee Park

The Korean made it win number five for the season after finishing birdie-birdie in Mexico for a 64 and three-shot win over Carlota Ciganda.

The Spaniard went one better with a best-of-the-week 63, she was six under for her first seven holes, but Park was too good. It was some effort for the World No 2 as she had to withdraw from her last event in China because of a cyst on her left middle finger.

Park’s compatriot Sei Young Kim, who has won three times this season, was third. World No 1 Lydia Ko chose not to play with the Tour Championship taking place this week.

What Park said: “I think it was definitely the putter, it was really good this week. I made a lot of birdies this week, it was a lot of fun with Carlota playing so well, I didn’t know I needed an eight under to win. So it was almost a perfect day, I didn’t make any mistakes, so I was able to focus on my game.”

Mark Townsend

Been watching and playing golf since the early 80s and generally still stuck in this period. Huge fan of all things Robert Rock, less so white belts. Handicap of 8, fragile mind and short game
