Which US Players Have Etched Their Names in History Over the Last Decade?

Golf has gone through some major changes in the past year but one thing that remains the same is the high quality of American players. US golfers have long been at the top of the sport, with Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, and Bobby Jones five of the best US golfers in history. However, concentrating only on the past decade, which US players have etched their name in history?

Dustin Johnson

Despite having a major setback in 2014, Dustin Johnson has been one of the top American golfers of the past decade. Johnson has won 26 tournaments since 2012 sanctioned by either the PGA or European Tour. Included in those tournament victories are two major titles, one at the 2016 US Open and the other at the 2020 Masters. Johnson has 6 wins to his name in the World Golf Championships and has twice won the Ryder Cup with the United States team, in 2016 and 2021. Given his results and level of performance on the golf course, no one can deny Johnson has written his name in golfing history over the last decade.

Jordan Spieth

At the time of writing, Jordan Spieth is only 29 years old and has plenty of time to win more major golf titles. The American won his first PGA Tour title in 2013, at the age of 19 and has claimed 3 major titles since that first victory at the John Deere Classic. Spieth won both The Masters and US Open in 2015 and in doing so he became only the sixth player to win both events in the same year and the first since 2002. Spieth was the youngest winner of the US Open since 1923 and became the fourth-youngest player to win multiple major championships. Following a couple of mediocre years by his high standards, Spieth returned to winning ways on the PGA Tour in 2021 and 2022 and you might want to back him at a major in 2023 using the best legal betting sites USA has to offer.

Brooks Koepka

It is fair to say Brooks Koepka exploded onto the golfing scene in 2017 and enjoyed a fantastic era of major title success. Having won the 2017 US Open, Koepka successfully defended his title the following year and claimed the PGA Championship. Koepka also defended the PGA Championship title in 2019. By winning the 2019 PGA Championship, Koepka became the first man to successfully defend the PGA Championship since Tiger Woods in 2007. He also matched the record for the lowest number of shots at a major tournament at the 2018 PGA Championship, completing the event in 267 shots.

In addition to their individual achievements, both Spieth and Koepka join Johnson in having won the Ryder Cup twice for their country. Justin Thomas, Bubba Watson, and Phil Mickelson are the other names who come to mind when discussing the top US golfers of the past decade. However, in terms of winning tournaments and level of performance, Johnson, Spieth, and Koepka have etched their names in history.
