What he said: All the best quotes from Masters day 3

We round up the best quotes as the field took aim at Jordan Spieth in round three

Leaderboard and final pairings
Spieth -16
Rose – 12

Mickelson -11
Hoffman – 10

McIlroy – 6
Woods – 6

Jordan Spieth (Now holds the 54-hole record at the Masters)

“Two under at the start of the day is a good score. All in all when I look back at the day I’m pleased.

“The guys came in a little closer and ideally I would have liked to have stretched the lead a bit.

“It’s bunched with a couple of Major champions so it should be an exciting Masters Sunday – hopefully not though!

“Scoreboard watching is the biggest challenge I need to focus on shooting another under par round and not worry about anyone else.”

Justin Rose (Recovered from a poor start but flourished on the back nine to join Spieth in the final, four shots back)

“You have no choice but to shake it off and tell yourself to start again. Play one shot at a time.

“But holing a few putts really gave me some momentum.

“I got a bit more dialled in and more committed with my numbers on the back nine.

“I knew if I made the putt on 18 I’d get into the final group. It’s going to be nice to play in the final pairing at The Masters – it’s what dreams are made of.

“I’m four back and I’ve got an opportunity to play a free round of golf and chase as hard as I can – it’s going to be fun.

“It would be phenomenal. Winning my first Major, hopefully I can draw on that experience tomorrow – knowing that I’ve been there before and I’ve done it and pulled off the shots when I’ve really had to.

“Each major throws up a different challenge but I’m feeling good about my game.”

Phil Mickelson (The three-time winner is up for the challenge)

“It’s so fun to play late in the afternoon and today couldn’t have been any better.

“To be in one of the last groups and to be playing well is just the best.

“You can’t explain how exciting and fun it is for a golfer to play the back nine at August on Sunday with an opportunity to win.

“My goal now is to play a solid front nine because if I do then I can play that back nine with an opportunity.”

It looks like I’m going to need something basically around 61, 62 to have a real chance" – McIlroy Rory McIlroy (Got off to a fast start but failed to capitalise on the back nine to finish round 3 on -6)

“It looks like I’m going to need something basically around 61, 62 to have a real chance,”

“I’m not sure that’s going to happen, but we’ll see.

“I”v made some silly mistakes. I definitely feel like I play this golf course better and better every year that I come here.

“It’s just a few stretches of holes have held me back and that’s really been the case this year again.”

Tiger Woods (A thoroughly entertaining 68 kept Tiger’s slim hopes alive)

“I could have been super-low today.

“I made a pretty crazy birdie at 13 and then a stupid bogey at 14. All in all it should have been about two shots better.

“Anything is possible around here. We saw what happened in 96 you just never know. A lot of it is down to conditions, you get a little bit of wind, they start drying the green out and tucking these pins away.

“With the way the greens have been guys have been firing at pins in a way that they normally never would.”

Ian Pouter (Took the clubhouse lead on -5 with a fine 67)

“Im hitting it pretty good. If I’d hit the 18th green that would have been 18 out of 18 and I’ve never done that around here before.

“So I’m hitting it really good but I just haven’t holed the putts the first few days.

“It was 30 putts for five over under par so I’ve left a few out there and I’m probably too far back to have a run at ti tomorrow but I’ll do what I can and see how close we get.

“I’m surprised because I haven’t seen the greens as receptive as this for quite some time.

“Jordan has played some exceptional golf, he’s holing putts, he’s pretty hot right now.”
