Looking to upgrade your TaylorMade irons and don't know which ones to buy? Allow us to help

It’s a question we get a lot: What are the best TaylorMade irons for me?

Despite being used by some of the best players in the world including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa and Dustin Johnson, TaylorMade offer a wider range of irons to suit all types of golfer. Wondering which might be best suited to your game? Check out our guide to the 2022 TaylorMade iron line-up below…

What are the best TaylorMade irons for me?

Mirroring the name of this year’s carbonwood range, the TaylorMade Stealth irons are packed with technology.

The irons develop on the previous Cap Back design of the SIM2 Max and SIM2 Max OS by taking the concept of a hollow iron, but replacing the steel typically found on the back of the club face with a polymer composite cap.

The result is an increase in both flexion and forgiveness. Put simply, the Stealth irons are designed to go high and far, with the centre of gravity a key consideration within their design, ensuring they remain easy to launch.

TaylorMade tout the Stealth as the “new look of a game improvement iron”, and we can see why – with less overall size versus traditional irons in this category.

Plus, with their Echo Dampening System giving the sound and feeling of a forged iron, those seeking a little more help need not be deafened by the increased frequency usually associated with game improvement clubs.

The TaylorMade P790 range has been an overwhelming success in the players’ distance category for several years, and as such as been retained for a third generation.

The SpeedFoam of past releases has been replaced by a new SpeedFoam air which is 69% lighter than its predecessor, allowing the designers to redistribute this weight elsewhere in the head to increase forgiveness. Like the Stealth, attention has also been given to ensuring the hollow-headed design still feels great, with this also helped by a forged face.

Consistently performing on our tests across the board, the P790 really can be used by every level of golfer, many also just adding a P790 2-iron to the top end of their set due to its ease of launch and huge distance.

The TaylorMade P770 irons have introduced a little sibling rivalry for 2022.

The company don’t shy away from the fact this this product borrows heavily from the P790, providing all of the same benefits; including the SpeedFoam Air, SpeedPocket, and Inverted Cone Technology. However, the difference is the size and shape of the head, with all of this tech packed into a smaller overall profile.

TaylorMade claim that this is their most powerful iron yet from a head of this size and we’d find it difficult to disagree.

The perfect choice for somebody who has perhaps been a long-time blade user, who now needs a little extra help but still desires a sleeker look at address.

Now we begin to get into more of the traditional players offerings, starting with the TaylorMade P7MC.

This fully forged offering features 1025 carbon steel, pressed with 2,000 tonnes to create a tighter structure within the final product for a solid, consistent feel.

The P7MC features a small cavity, providing the smallest amount of help which may come in handy for some players, particularly towards the longer irons. Indeed, many – including tour pros – will opt for a mixed set of P7MC and P7MB, thanks to the slight increase in in forgiveness from the cavity.

The styling is minimal, with a slender topline and minimal offset, designed to aid workability and shotmaking.

The TaylorMade P7MB shares many of the same characteristics as the P7MC, only with a muscle-back, rather than muscle-cavity construction.

The styling is super clean, with just a small TaylorMade ‘T’ and the model number on the reverse. In addition to the thin topline, the P7MB irons also have a narrow sole and tight leading edge, designed to ensure consistency through the turf.

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of a well struck shot from a blade, and this offering from TaylorMade is amongst the purest on the market. If your game can handle these irons, you’ll be blessed with a stunning product – both down by the ball, and in the bag.

Last – but certainly not least – is the TaylorMade P7TW. As the name might suggest, these irons were inspired by and designed in collaboration with,Mr Woods himself.

The irons have been in a TaylorMade’s lineup for a few years now, but have proved eminently popular, with other tour players including Tommy Fleetwood and Scottie Scheffler also popping these in the bag.

The P7TW feature a very traditional look, with a progressive face height, thin top line and lofts that hark back to yesteryear – including a 47-degree pitching wedge!

There are some modern touches too though, with a flash of Tiger red within the detailing on the back of the face, as well as TaylorMade’s Milled Grind sole which helps to promote consistency through the strike.

Like the P7MBs, these irons aren’t for the fainthearted, but do offer one of the most beautiful iron silhouettes of the modern age.
