Wales: Pontypridd octogenarian wins competition
An 83-year-old Pontypridd golfer has been celebrating after winning a senior competition at Talbot Green.
Dennis Moore, who has since turned 84 and rarely plays all 18 holes of his home course, Llantrisant and Pontyclun, beat 100 other golfers who were aged 55 and over, with his stable ford score of 38 points.
Senior golf director John Davies was responsible for organising the tournament and said: “There were 100 people there this year – some with very good handicap ratings – and Dennis amazed absolutely everyone.
“He plays two or three times a week, although not the whole course. But he played the full course for the competition and came out on top.”
‘All the members of my club are extremely proud of him’ Moore has been a member of the club for more than 50 years and has a handicap of 18.
Not only did he finish top of the leaderboard, but his net 65 was the best of the day.
Davies added: “He beat every other player – even those not in his category – which is a tremendous achievement on his part.
“All the members of my club, together with Dennis’ family, are extremely proud of him.”
