VIDEO: Lawrie would relish Ryder Cup role at Gleneagles
Speaking exclusively to National Club Golfer at the British Par 3 Championship, 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie was open and honest about where his game is at the moment.
“It’s no secret. I’ve been struggling physically and mentally,” the 45-year-old said.
Lawrie admits he is “nowhere near” taking up a playing role at Gleneagles next month but would relish any role if asked by captain Paul McGinley.
If he asks then it will be a yes on whatever he wants me to do" “Whatever Paul wants me to do, if he does, then I will accept,” said the Scot. “I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t.
“I don’t know what he’s thinking, he hasn’t spoken to me and rightly so. He’s been leaving everyone to try and get in the team.
“I think he must know that I’m not going to get in as a player, if he feels there’s a role for me at Gleneagles then he will phone and ask me.
“If he asks then it will be a yes on whatever he wants me to do.”
