2015 testing season kicks off with Benross fitting

A season reviewing the best gear in the pro shops began with a look at (and hit of) Benross's new range

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mf41cYSeig The Christmas decorations may only just have been put away but the 2015 testing season here at nationalclubgolfer.com is officially underway.

Ahead of our massive drivers test next month, James and I have begun a tour of the country around all the big brands aiming to get us dialed in to the best kit.

Our first assignment was on home turf – the Leeds Golf Centre just a mile from our offices to be precise – with Benross’s Martin Thompson.

Although it’s initially intimidating to hit shots under the expert eye of a former British Amateur champion (1982 at Royal Cinque Ports) we were soon getting stuck into their new Rip and Hot Speed 10 drivers and irons to encouraging effect.

The full range will be in the shops in mid to late February. It’s really whet our appetites for what’s on the market this season – and also given the rest something to beat.

Between now and the end of next week we’ll also have hit and been fitted into the latest clubs from Lynx, Ping, TaylorMade, Adams, Callaway, Yonex and Titleist.

The following week is the PGA Show in Florida when we’ll be learning more about all of the above by talking to the engineers and technicians who designed the kit that is landing as I write in pro shops up and down the land.
We hope to test every brand’s best-performing product for us against each other and look forward to sharing our findings with you next month In order to achieve a level playing field in our tests this year, we only want to test clubs that have been custom fit for us. Otherwise, it’s just not fair.

After all, what’s more likely to get those all-important medals – a driver that’s been set up in terms of shaft, head, lie angle and grip to suit our individual needs or a 9˚ stiff from off the shelf?

We hope to test every brand’s best-performing product for us against each other and look forward to sharing our findings with you next month.

In the meantime, we’re going to hit the motorways and A roads next week on a whistlestop tour of England that will take us to Gainsborough, Wentworth, Chessington, Silvermere and St Ives.

Wish us luck!
