UK Championship preview: TV times and betting tips
The European Tour’s UK Swing comes to a conclusion this week, and it’s a return to The Belfry for the first time since 2008. Here’s everything you need to know about the inaugural UK Championship…

Course summary: Host venue for four Ryder Cups, including most recently in 2002, The Belfry offers an inland links style challenge. Undulating fairways and greens will require players to use their creativity to navigate the golf course, whilst trying to avoid the cavernous bunkers.
Purse: £1 million

ISPS Handa UK Championship betting: Each-way tips
Benjamin Hebert (60/1 with bet365) returns to European Tour action after playing in the PGA Championship. Prior to travelling stateside, Hebert put together three solid rounds at the Hero Open before closing with a disappointing 76. The quality of the Frenchman is clear, with three runner-up finishes on tour last season. The elusive maiden European Tour win will come soon, and at a big price here I am siding with Hebert to get it done this week.
Dean Burmester (90/1) provided one of the putting displays of the season during the third round last week, gaining 4.91 strokes on the field. When you combine his quality putting with his length off the tee, ranking 3rd on tour, the South African certainly has the skill set to navigate this course. A T6 finish at the English Championship at Hanbury Manor further demonstrates how close he is to challenging for a trophy, and at a big price I am hoping that it might be time to add to his sole European Tour win.
Wilco Nienaber (70/1) has raised a few eyebrows over the course of the UK Swing events, with some excellent finishes including when 4th at the English Championship. The young South African ranks 1st in Driving Distance, giving him a great advantage off the tee, and despite missing the cut at last week’s event is certainly one of the most exciting young talents on tour. At this price it’s worth having a speculative each-way bet on Nienaber, especially as he now has three top-30 finishes in his last four events on the European Tour.
ISPS Handa UK Championship betting: The long shot
Jorge Campillo (110/1) secured a T8 at last week’s Wales Open and is a two-time European Tour champion, including most recently in Qatar this season, so it’s a surprise to see him at such a big price. When in form Campillo is one of the strongest players on tour, evidenced by five top-5 finishes in 2019. A no-brainer for an each-way bet this week.
ISPS Handa UK Championship betting: Top tip
Bernd Wiesberger (20/1) has been impressing golf fans in the US for the last few weeks and the Austrian’s experience of playing on the PGA Tour will no doubt stand him in good stead. He could quite easily be a lot shorter in the betting because of it. If he plays well this week, we will not see a similar price for him in the near future so it may be worth taking advantage while we can.
