Despite the Covid-19 scare at Harbor Town the PGA Tour moves up the east coast. Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka continue their run of appearances, while Phil Mickelson is back. Still no Tiger Woods though. Below are my Travelers Championship betting tips, but first…

Course Stats: Par 70; 6,841 yards

Course Summary: The third shortest course on the PGA Tour, River Highlands is a traditional-style test. Tree-lined bent grass corridors skirt around multiple water hazards, requiring accuracy off the tee and strong approach play.

Purse: $7.4 million

Defending champion: Chez Reavie (-17)

Travelers Championship betting tips: Each-way tips

Abraham Ancer (40/1 with bet365) has put in a golfing masterclass since the PGA Tour’s return, and following a 2nd-place finish at the RBC Heritage he has the ability to go one better here. Ancer led the field in Strokes Gained: Approach last week and has course form at River Highlands with a T8 finish last time out. The Mexican also boasts consistent driving accuracy, which gives him plenty of opportunities to demonstrate his excellent approach game.

Joaquin Niemann (55/1) also had a fantastic week at Harbour Town, finishing tied-5th, and is another with course form at River Highlands, finishing in the top five in 2019. Niemann’s game fits courses like this perfectly and was in the top 20 here last year for Driving Distance, GIR, Scrambling, and Putts per Round. Don’t be surprised if the young Chilean is lifting his second PGA Tour trophy come Sunday.

I tipped JT Poston (66/1) at 110/1 for the RBC and he didn’t disappoint. Poston finished T8 after an impressive display that secured him his second top 10 in as many starts. Poston led the field in Putts per Round, finished 2nd in Proximity to the Hole, and hit 74% of Greens in Regulation throughout the tournament. I am sticking with Poston again, as I don’t think it will be long before he is in the mix down the stretch.

Travelers Championship betting tips: The long shot

Carlos Ortiz (250/1) started Sunday at the RBC with a chance to challenge before a 73 put an end to that. But nevertheless those odds are far too long for a player with three top-10 finishes this season already. Ortiz currently sits inside the top 40 golfers on tour for Strokes Gained: Around the Green, Tee to Green, and Total. His 63 in the third round proves he’s got what it takes to go low. The bookies may regret offering Ortiz at such a huge price.

Travelers Championship betting tips: Top tip

After another impressive performance, I’m sticking with Bryson DeChambeau (14/1) to challenge again. It won’t be long before he wins again and, although his putter let him down at times, he was not far away again at the RBC. DeChambeau currently sits 2nd in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, 8th in Total, and also improved his driving accuracy to 68% this week. If he can improve his third-round scoring, which has let him down in both of the last two weeks, he has every chance to justify being the favourite for the Travelers.
