PGA Tour star sets new TPC Sawgrass course record (and the previous holder was not happy!)
Tom Hoge is the new TPC Sawgrass course record holder after a stunning third round at The Players Championship.
The American, whose sole PGA Tour victory to date came at the 2022 Pebble Beach Pro-Am, carded an immensely satisfying 62 around the Stadium Course that featured 10 birdies – five on each nine – and eight pars.
Starting on the 10th, Hoge rolled in gains at 11, 12, 15, 16, and 18 before the turn, before adding three in a row from the 2nd, and two more at the 8th and 9th.
“I didn’t even know it was a course record until after we got done in the scoring there,” Hoge said after completing his round.
As for other course records he might hold, Hoge said he’s “not even sure”, before adding: “I shot 61 in a qualifier in college. I remember that one. I might have one up in Canada somewhere around Toronto, I played with some friends up there, but I don’t know. That was a long time ago.”
The previous record holder, Colt Knost, now a TV analyst for CBS, was watching on from a golf cart (WHERE)
He took it in good spirits, though…
Knost had previously set the record en route to finishing in a tie for 3rd at the 2016 Players.
