LAST week’s DP World Tour Championship was notable for many reasons, not least it being the first week of seeding for a full field for the new Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x prototype golf balls.
The previous week Adam Scott became the first player to win a worldwide tour event playing a new Titleist Pro V1 prototype when he captured the Australian Masters by four shots. Hours later Luke Donald followed that with a five shot-victory at the Dunlop Phoenix in Japan playing the new Titleist Pro V1x prototype.
Scott and Donald are already winners on tour For now the product has been kept under wraps with the players, which also include Ian Poulter, Louis Oosthuizen and Michael Hoey, receiving ‘white box’ samples after testing it in practice and putting it straight into play.
The South African looked like making it a third win for the prototype for much of the week before eventually finishing in fifth.
Expect to hear a lot more about the new ball at the start of 2013.
