15-time major champion and now World Golf Hall of Famer
Tiger Woods will be inducted into golf’s Hall of Fame as part of its class of 2021
Tiger Woods will be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in its class of 2021.
The 15-time major champion’s induction is unquestionably justified and he will become eligible for the Hall of Fame in December when he turns 45.
The criteria for inductees was recently adjusted and the minimum age was changed to 45 from 50.
After being informed of his inclusion during a phone call with PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, Woods said: “I am both honoured and humbled to be inducted in the World Golf Hall of Fame.
“This past year has been such an incredible journey and the support I’ve received from my family, friends and fans has been overwhelming.
“This achievement is the ultimate recognition to never give up and keep chasing.”
Woods tied Sam Snead’s record of 82 PGA Tour wins at the Zozo Championship in October but his troublesome back injury has halted his progress in 2020.
Speaking about Woods’ induction, Monahan said: “Tiger has done more for the game of golf than anyone ever thought possible, and his historic feats on the course are only one aspect of his impact.”
