The Theragun is something you won’t see on the shelves in your pro shop but that doesn’t mean it won’t benefit your game. I tested The Theragun out over the season to see what difference it made.
Theragun G3 Pro review: First Impressions
What is a Theragun for? A Theragun is designed to provide percussive therapy to relieve muscle tension by combining the science of frequency, torque, and amplitude. Many body aches and pains are caused by muscle tension, which the Theragun releases improving mobility.
Theragun G3 Pro review: The Technology
Theragun uses a bespoke combination of amplitude and frequency to deliver percussive massage therapy. It provides short duration pulses deep into the tissues of the body. These encourage blood flow thereby speeding up recovery, relieving every day muscle soreness and pain.
The device uses three principles to aid recovery: 16 mm amplitude providing deep muscle relief, decreasing pain and increasing range of motion. It has a top level frequency of 2400 RPMs, which is the optimal calibration for therapy without associated pain. It also has a high-quality industrial-grade motor and withstands up to 60lbs of maximum force and torque.
It has two different speeds – ranging from 29 to 40 percussions per second with sixty pounds of force behind it. There are six different attachments which are interchangeable so you can use the right one to target each muscle group.
They also have a dedicated app which is really useful to see how to use the product correctly.
Theragun G3 Pro review: NCG Verdict
Using the Theragun has definitely helped me recover faster both after the gym and golf tournaments. It is really quick and easy to use, meaning you don’t have to spend hours stretching. It only takes two minutes for full recovery of a muscle group. A full body recovery session can take less than 15 minutes, replenishing energy supplies and hydrating the tissue.
But I also found it was very therapeutic and relaxing to use. Often I don’t stretch out properly after a round of golf, or the gym, but using this device makes me spend much more time and I really feel the benefits the day after. The rotating arm is a great feature for helping you reach awkward hard to reach areas, and being able to adjust speed for different muscle groups was great.
After tournaments, especially if I’ve played 36 holes in a day, my calves and hamstrings are very tight. I also often get neck pain from sitting at a desk and in my car for too long. The Theragun has helped reduce pain from all tight muscle groups. Not only has this made me more ready to compete but it has promoted better bodily posture and awareness.
The only downside I would say is the device is quite loud, I wouldn’t feel comfortable using it in certain situations because of this.
Overall, I found the device has really improved mobility and reduced aches and pains. I would even say it has helped me sleep better as I’m more relaxed and not waking up with aches and pains.
