The Open 2015: Super Sunday sets up thrilling finale

In the final round of the 2010 Open Championship at St Andrews Louis Oosthuizen had an eight shot lead and cantered to a seven shot victory.

After some seriously low scoring in Sunday’s third round there are over 20 players within five shots off the leaders setting up what should be a thrilling final round.

Moving day was definitely moved a day in the 2015 Open Championship.

You have to scroll very far down the leaderboard to find the first player to shoot over par as benign conditions allowed the players to make birdie after birdie.

Australia’s Marc Leishman set the tone with a 64 and had the chance to break the Major scoring record before finishing with three straight pars.

If the tournament had started on Sunday morning the leaderboard would have looked like this at the end of the day

Leishman -8
Harrington -7
Dunne, Spieth, Pepperell, Folwler, Furyk, -6

The players who shot -5 included Day, Oosthuizen, Reed, Chesters, Mahan Duval and Dufner.

Paul Dunne carded the lowest third round by an amateur and the lowest 54-hole total by an amateur Thankfully for the field it was the final pairing of Danny Willett and Dustin Johnson which failed to really join the party and ensured a three-way tie at the top between Irish amateur Paul Dunne, Jason Day and Louis Oosthuizen.

But it was a day where so many potential winners played themselves into contention.

Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Adam Scott to name just three.

On Sunday 12 of the 18 holes were playing under par compared to eight in round two and 10 in round one.

There were also a total of 343 birdies and four eagles.

Special mention must go to Dunne who carded the lowest third round by an amateur and the lowest 54-hole total by an amateur.

He will play in the final pairing with Oosthuizen in what promises to be a memorable Monday on the Old Course.
