South West: Saunton manager targets top 20
Saunton’s new manager is hoping to drive the course into the top 20 of UK courses.
Russell Mayne has amibitions to take the Devonshire course from 35th in the UK ranks to the top 20.
The course is already ranked the best in the county, and Mayne said: “Everybody has been really welcoming since I joined and we have all been generating ideas on how to make Saunton even better than it already is.
“Everything we do will be leading and building towards getting the club established as one of the very best in the UK.”
‘We want Saunton to be in the top 20’ Among the investment strategies Mayne hopes to implement is the modernisation of the club’s computer systems, giving golfers access to technology that will help them improve their game.
Mayne has joined Saunton from Exeter Golf and Country Club, where he was manager from 2009.
He has previously worked at Worsley Park in Manchester, Kent Golf Centre and Pine Ridge in Surrey.
“I have worked at some great venues and enjoyed my time at Exeter, but the lure of Saunton was too big,” Mayne added. “It’s one of the top jobs to have within the UK and I am very happy to be part of the team.”
