Taxi! Lowry flies back to PGA Tour event after cut line chaos
Shane Lowry was forced to jump on a plane and fly back to the Wyndham Championship after a chaotic cut line scenario unfolded at the PGA Tour’s final event of the season.
Things got tense as play was suspended at Sedgefield on Friday, causing a handful of groups to finish their second rounds on Saturday morning.
But having assumed he’d missed the weekend after rounds of 71-68 saw him a shot below the projected cut line, Lowry packed his bags and jetted home early ahead of next week’s FedEx Cup playoffs.
Well, you can guess what happened next…
When round two concluded on Saturday, the cut line moved down a shot, meaning a record 87 golfers – including Lowry – had made the weekend!
Hilariously, the mishap meant the 2019 Open champ then had to rush back to the airport to try and make his third round tee time…
Fortunately for Lowry, it was luck of the Irish as he returned to Greensboro just in time to tee up for day three at the Wyndham Championship, although not before taking another roasting from best bud Justin Thomas…
