Having seen Kurt Kitayama crowned as the winner of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the next stop on the PGA Tour schedule is the Players Championship.

This year’s event at TPC Sawgrass, with $25 million in prize money up for grabs, will have a very different complexion compared with last season as a number of competitors have jumped ship to LIV Golf.

Nonetheless, 49 of the top 50 players in the FedEx Cup standings will be fighting for the top spot on the Players Championship leaderboard attempting to win “golf’s fifth major.”

Two featured groups were announced at the beginning of the week at Ponte Vedra Beach and you can view all of the tee times here.

We have the full Players Championship TV times below as well as extra information regarding the PGA Tour’s flagship event, but first…

Where is the Players Championship?

The Players Championship is played on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in Florida, which is one of the most recognisable venues in the game.

The Players Championship debuted in 1974, but the course hosted the event for the first time in 1982 when Jerry Pate tasted victory.

The par-3 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass is the first feature that comes to mind with its island green. It is an incredibly intimidating hole that goes down as one of golf’s most famous landmarks.

Who won the Players Championship in 2022?

In what was a heavily weather-delayed tournament, Cameron Smith braved the elements to win his fifth PGA Tour title to that point.

Despite finding the water on the 72nd hole, Smith impressively recovered to finish one shot ahead of Anirban Lahiri. He banked a record Players Championship payout of $3.6 million.

The Australian will not be back to Tour HQ to defend his title after being suspended for moving to LIV Golf and accepting a lucrative offer made by LIV CEO and fellow countryman Greg Norman.

Is the Players Championship a major?

Although the Players Championship is known as the “fifth major” in golf, it is a regular PGA Tour event and officially not one of the game’s coveted titles.

The Masters, the PGA Championship, the US Open, and the Open Championship are the stand-alone tournaments that arguably define a player’s career.

Jack Nicklaus has won the most major trophies in history with 18, while Tiger Woods has long been breathing down the Golden Bear’s neck on 15.
