Played by NCG: Pike Hills Golf Club

A challenging parkland course that requires good course management.

Reason for a Pike Hills Golf Club review

I drive past the course every day on the way to work and thought it would be a good idea to pop in for a game in preparation for the York Amateur Championship, which was held there earlier this month.

Where is it?

Pike Hills is just 2 miles from York City Centre and is located just off the A64 Eastbound from Leeds.

What to expect

Pike Hills

A challenging parkland course that requires good course management. You need to consider your club selection with every shot as to avoid the well placed hazards off the tee.

My best bit

The 15th is a solid 156-yard uphill Par 3 hitting back up towards the balcony of the clubhouse. As with most holes at Pike Hills, the green is well protected with a greenside bunker to the left and a copse of trees on the right. Tip: Make sure to leave your ball short of the hole to leave yourself with an uphill putt and a good chance of a Par.

What to look out for

Don’t be fooled by the relatively shortness of the course, as the greens are the real protection at Pike Hills. The greens are in fantastic condition both firm and true. Tip: Use the slopes of the green to work your ball close to the pin.

When I go back

I will make sure to leave myself enough time to have a pint on the balcony.
