Reason for a Conwy Golf Club review
Conwy Golf Club was the last round of a 72-hole Wales trip over the weekend, this has been on our hit-list for some time.
[course id=25226]
Where is it?
Conwy is on the north coast of Wales, 55 miles from Liverpool.
What to expect
Conwy is a relatively flat links with generally a feeling of some space as you enjoy the views of the bay while playing the front half. On the back nine, as you work your way to the closing stretch, the gorse encroaches and creates a new challenge with a fearsome finish.
In the past decade it has hosted numerous championships such as the Wales Senior Open, Ladies European Tour and Boys Home Internationals.
It was easy to see the course was in immaculate condition and is hosting the Girls Home Internationals this year followed by the 2020 Curtis Cup.
My best bit
From the 12th you have a run of par 5, par 3, par 5, par 3; two good birdie chances broken up by two picturesque 3s. The13th in particular, with its two-tiered green, is fantastic fun. All of this is happening with the backdrop of the Conwy mountain In the background too.
What to look out for
Any back nine that’s worth its salt will have a tough par 4 thrown in the last five holes to test your resolve, the 17th is just that. At 389 yards it isn’t long but with gorse lining both sides of the fairway and a well-bunkered green there are plenty of obstacles to cause dropped shots.
When I go back
I would recommend getting there an hour early to experience the upstairs bar with a lovely view across the course with great service and food. Go for the Club Sandwich!
