Golf equipment: Ping debut new S55 iron on PGA Tour
5 Ping have revealed the latest addition to their iron family, the S55.
Set to be tested on the PGA Tour this week by the likes of Bubba Watson, the new model is set to build on the success of the S56 iron, which won over 30 worldwide titles and was renowned for its useful blend of forgiveness and playability in a compact head.
According to Ping, the new iron has a thinner face than its predecessor for more distance (and ergo forgiveness on off-centre hits), stronger lofts for a better flight, and a multi-material design that improves stability and distance control.
The Ping S55 irons are cast from stainless steel and are likely to be released in late autumn/early winter. Expect a set make-up of 3-PW.
