Peter Oosterhuis hangs up the microphone

Tributes have been paid to the former Ryder Cup player and broadcaster, Peter Oosterhuis, who has made the decision to retire at the age of 66.

Calling time on a broadcasting career that has spanned for 20 years, the former European Tour player had worked for CBS Sports, the Golf Channel and Sky Sports for the previous two decades.

European Tour Chief Executive, George O’Grady, paid tribute to the former 20 time European Tour winner: ““I am certain I speak for everyone connected to The European Tour in paying tribute to Peter, not only in his previous career as a great player but since he moved into the world of broadcasting.

“His professionalism showed through in all of his commentaries, where his insights helped bring this great game that we love to life. 

“We wish him well in his retirement and hope to use his experience wherever possible in the future.”

The two time Open runner up, Oosterhuis said: “Golf has been a big part of my life ever since I was a little boy growing up in England, and I thank CBS and Golf Channel for allowing me to continue in the sport after my playing days were over.

“I feel it is the right time to step away to focus on things in life that I have always wanted to do.”
