North East Round-up: Mizuno fitting comes to Close House
Close House has announced the installation of a Mizuno Performance Fitting Centre at its academy and driving range.
The Newcastle-upon-Tyne course is only the ninth venue in the UK and Ireland to be fitted with a Mizuno centre.

General manager John Glendinning said: “The addition of the Mizuno Performance Fitting Centre will enhance our existing academy setup, enabling us to offer custom club fitting to both members and visitors to Close House.
‘We are excited about the formation of this new partnership’ “We are excited about the formation of this new partnership with Mizuno and have every confidence in their ability to provide high quality custom fit Mizuno equipment.”
Mizuno’s fitting methodology relies on the Shaft Optimiser and Swing DNA system which has been the industry’s leading fitting method at local golf club level since its introduction in 2009.
Husband and wife score holes-in-one
A married couple at Sand Moor have both recorded holes-in-one within days of each other.
Both at the 17th hole, John Stephenson hit a four-iron into the hole on Saturday April 18, while Shelagh scored her ace on Thursday April 23 with a five-wood.

Malton members share 90th birthdays with 9-holes
A celebration took place at Malton & Norton recently, with members Frank Lownsbrough and Roy Stenton both reaching the milestone of 90 years of age.
Lownsbrough and Stenton are the oldest playing members at the club and both play nine holes three times every week.
Stenton joined Malton & Norton in 1985, with Lownsbrough joining 10 years later.
Both men are also Second World War veterans, with Stenton having served in the RAF and Lownsbrough the Royal Artillery.
Plan in place to save struggling Woodham
A multi-million pound development scheme has been drawn up in a bid to secure the future of the loss-making Woodham, in County Durham.
Hall Construction purchased the site in 2014 and has made significant investment in the course and clubhouse, allowing it to reopen.

The plans would see around 50 homes constructed on a section of the course, which planning director Neil Westwick would secure the venues long term future.
Planning permission had previously been gained for homes on the site in 2012, and Westwick told the Northern Echo: “The club needs to attract and retain new members to be a viable business and this can only be achieved through significant investment and the raising of the standard of the golf course to drive increased membership and revenue.”
Durham outgunned in Northern Counties clash
Northumberland won the opening match of the Northern Counties Championship, defeating Durham by 10.5 points to 7.5.
The event was held at Blyth, with Durham only managing two foursomes wins
