McIlroy switches caddies for European Tour finale
There will be a new face on Rory McIlroy’s bag this week as he looks to secure a third win at the DP World Tour Championship
Rory McIlroy will go into this week’s DP World Tour Championship with a different face on the bag as he looks to close out his European Tour season in style.
His usual sidekick, Harry Diamond, has just become a dad after his wife Claire gave birth to their first child, Georgia Iris.
So McIlroy, fresh from his win at the HSBC Champions, has turned to good friend Niall O’Connor, who made his name playing rugby for Ulster. O’Connor, a fly-half who made it as far as the Ireland A side in 2008, has a bit of caddying experience having been on Rory’s dad Gerry’s bag at Pebble Beach.
McIlroy has plenty of previous with the Earth Course in Dubai, having won there twice, so you would imagine it will just be a proverbial case of keeping up and shutting up and, given they’re good mates, just having a bit of a laugh.
New dad Diamond is expected to be back on the bag when the PGA Tour gets going early next year, with McIlroy’s first start expected to come at Torrey Pines.

Been watching and playing golf since the early 80s and generally still stuck in this period. Huge fan of all things Robert Rock, less so white belts. Handicap of 8, fragile mind and short game
