Callaway X2 Hot – GOLD AWARD
“Really quick off the face”
SRP: £249 Loft: 9, 10.5 & 13.5
Stock shaft: Aldila Tour Green
Adjustable? Yes
Player comments
JW – Really quick off the face and a strong flight. The shaft was too long for me but it did work.
PC – It looks really big behind the ball. I loved how it felt off the face. You really feel powerful. It performed and sounded like I remember Callaway drivers doing when they first got popular 20 years ago
DM – The crown is busy in terms of graphics but I soon forgot that. Very easy to use – and long. Some shots were turning over, but that’s no bad thing for a driver of this type. Any mid or high handicapper would surely do well with one of these.
Hot: It’s hot! Players of all abilities will hit it far, more often, with the X2 Hot
Not: It sits a touch closed so some may struggle to fight a hook
Callaway Big Bertha Alpha – BRONZE AWARD WINNER
“Great looks and so many performance benefits”
SRP: £399 Loft: 9
Stock shaft: Fubuki Zeta Tour Adjustable? Yes
Player comments
JW – It isn’t a driver for me in terms of the performance benefits but some of the good players I fit will love this.
DM – Amazing – moving the Gravity Core repeatedly took 750rpm off my shots. I love the looks and you can do so much with the performance. It’s a fitter’s dream.
Hot: This driver is a remarkable feat of engineering
Not: You have to work hard to dial in the performance
Callaway Big Bertha
“Classic Bertha performance: long and forgiving”
SRP: £349 Lofts: 9 & 10.5
Stock shaft: Fubuki Zeta
Adjustable? Yes
Player comments
PC – I love the looks. Performance was better than average for me but not exceptional
JW – Much better for me than the Alpha in terms of results. This was the longest driver for me on the day. The arrow reminds me of vintage Callaway clubs.
Hot: Sliding rail really does reduce unwanted sidespin.
Not: To spend £350 and still not have the top-of-the- range model (Alpha) could put some off.
