Which equipment brand has had the most success at the Masters?

Hannah Holden started thinking about all the brands players have used at Augusta down the years. So which has the most wins?

I was flicking through some old pictures of Masters winners and it got me thinking: Which equipment brands have had the most success at Augusta? So I started looking.

Now, I quickly found out it’s a rather laborious task. So at the moment, I’ve only got those in this century. But I plan on doing the rest so make sure you check back.

Anyway, for your gear nerd pleasure, here are the Masters WITB setups for every player to have slipped into the Green Jacket since the turn of the millennium, followed by which brands have been most successful at Augusta…

So which brands are most successful at the Masters?

DRIVER: It’s very tight at the top of the bag with Titleist and TaylorMade seeing a narrow victory over Nike and Ping. Though recent history suggests TaylorMade are making a run to try top this category.

1ST: TITLEIST/TAYLORMADE (5 WINS)
3rd: Nike/Ping (4 wins)

FAIRWAY WOODS: TaylorMade have taken the title here followed closely by Titleist although we haven’t seen a winner with a Titleist fairway in play for seven years now.

1ST: TAYLORMADE (6 WINS)
2nd: Titleist (5 WINS)
3rd: Nike (4 wins)

IRONS: I have to say I was surprised by how many winners have been using Titleist irons. But then again it is easy to forget Tiger and Phil – best associated with other brands – had them in play for their first victories.

1ST: TITLEIST (8 WINS)
2nd: Callaway (5 wins)
2nd: TaylorMade (5 wins)

WEDGES: The most eclectic club in the bag across winners as we saw eight different brands secure victory in this category. There was, however, one clear leader.

1ST: TITLEIST (8 WINS)
2nd: Callaway (4 wins)
3rd: Nike/Ping (3 wins)

PUTTER: The biggest margin of victory of any club in the bag. Will we see another winner with a Scotty this year? Looking at you, Hideki…

1ST: SCOTTY CAMERON (11 WINS)
2nd: Odyssey (5 wins)
3rd: Ping/TaylorMade (3 wins)

BALLS: Certainly no surprises here – and it was a pretty even split between Pro V1 and Pro V1x, too. Maybe Bridgestone could claim 2nd place here. (If you know, you know…)

1ST: TITLEIST (11 WINS)
2nd: Nike (5 wins)
3rd: Callaway (4 wins)

Elsewhere, four winners in the last 20 years have had hybrids in the bag – with two were Titleists with one win each for Callaway and Nike. And though Augusta’s layout doesn’t generally lend itself to driving irons, they have also been in the bag for six wins, including two for Titleist and one each for Callaway, TaylorMade, Srixon and Ping.

So there you have it. I hope you enjoyed geeking out on some vintage Masters WITB rundowns as much as I did.

Conclusion? If I was a betting man – or, indeed, woman – I’d be lumping on a Titleist staffer…
