How to get tickets to the PGA Championship

If heading to one of the nicest golf courses in the world to watch the world’s best battle it out for the Wanamaker Trophy at the PGA Championship – but how do you get PGA Championship tickets?

When is the PGA Championship?

Remember when the PGA Championship was known as Glory’s Last Shot? That was due to its position as the fourth and final major of the season on the men’s calendar. Now, though, it falls in May and sits between the Masters and US Open after the powers that be decided they wanted a condensed major season that saw all four played between April and July, bookended by the Players Championship in March and the FedEx Cup Playoffs in August.

And, just for fun, did you know the PGA Championship was also once played in February? A little nugget to impress your friends with.

British winners include Jim Barnes, the Cornishman who won the inaugural PGA Championship in 1916 before defending his title three years later following the conclusion of World War I, and Scots Jock Hutchison and Tommy Armour in 1920 and 1930 respectively.

We had to wait until 2012 for another winner, when Rory McIlroy lifted golf’s biggest trophy. He won it again two years later.

The only other European winners of a competition historically dominated by Americans are Ireland’s Padraig Harrington, in 2008, and Martin Kaymer, in 2010.

How do you get tickets to the PGA Championship?

As has been proved several times over the years, getting a ticket for the Masters is virtually impossible, but the PGA Championship offers a more realistic chance of witnessing major history.

As with every major championship, you are spoilt for choice with ticket options, there really is one to suit all.

If you’d prefer to go to the practice days in hope of getting a bit more up close and personal with the players, then ticket prices for ground passes start at around £40, while that price doubles for a tournament day.

If you’re feeling particularly flush, the Wanamaker Club ticket package will take the best part of £600 from your bank account.

But what is the Wanamaker Club, we hear you ask. They say it is “a climate-controlled venue located right of the 1st hole, featuring a sports bar atmosphere, upgraded food and beverage selections for purchase, executive restrooms, flat screen televisions and JumboTrons, and a large patio overlooking the 1st fairway and green”.

This option will, of course, also provide grounds passes for the entire week.

There are various ways you can buy PGA Championship tickets, including tour operators, but your best is to get them through the tournament’s official website.
