All the Gear: Get your hands on Woodland’s winning Wilson

Wilson launch their Staff Model Utility iron to the public and limited edition FootJoys headline our weekly All the Gear round-up

It’s been a miserable week here in Yorkshire so I haven’t been out much but my colleague Alex Perry was in sunny Florida to check out Cobra’s brand spanking new 2020 range. I can’t say anything about them just yet but it’s safe to say the new technology is pretty cool and I can’t wait to get my hands on them.

Alex also chatted to Rickie Fowler, Greg Norman and Claude Harmon III so look out for those too. There’s also a major winner joining the Cobra team, but I can’t tell you about that just yet, either…

Anyway let’s take a look at the new gear I’ve spotted this week…

Wilson Staff Model Utility

Talking of major winners, the driving iron that helped Gary Woodland win the US Open has finally been released to the public. The Staff Model Utility iron was originally created as a prototype for elite tour players and had direct input from a few, including Brandan Steele. We have already seen it appear in the bags of Padraig Harrington and Paul Lawrie.

The utility iron is designed to provide a combination of distance, reliability and forgiveness. It is higher launching than previous models due to seven grams of weight positioned low in the club head for increased launch angles. This is provided to offer the ball flight of a hybrid club with the aesthetic of an iron.

Wilson Staff Model Utility Iron

Made from a high-strength maraging steel face it delivers greater ball speeds across the entire face for improved distances. The hollow body long iron solution has also been refined for optimised feedback especially on miss-hit shots.

It will be available in three loft options (18˚, 21˚ and 24˚), with a KBS Tour Hybrid stock shaft and a Golf Pride Tour Velvet grip. Keep your eyes out for the full review coming soon…

The Staff Model Utility iron will be available from December 11 and will set you back £169. If you need any more information you’ll find it on the Wilson staff website.

FootJoy Flex

New limited edition FootJoy Flex shoes have hit the market. They feature smooth suede uppers with a modern take on traditional brogue styling. Crucially they still have the same comfort and lightweight design that made these shoes so popular this year.

The Flex LE1 shoes are available now and will set you back £109. More information on the FootJoy website.

SkyCaddie SX400

Earlier in the year we tested out the SkyCaddie SX500 which we were really impressed with and now SkyCaddie have a new addition to their range the SX400. This has the tech of the SX500 but in a more compact device but still provides you with all the detail on the HD touchscreen.

The SkyCaddie SX400 are available now and will set you back £299. More information on the Skycaddie website.
