Equipment: FootJoy Pro SL spikeless golf shoes unveiled

Tour players have been raving about them for months. Find out what makes the FootJoy Pro SL spikeless golf shoes so good.

It could be one of the worst kept secrets in golf equipment history but the FootJoy Pro SL spikeless golf shoes have finally, officially, been unveiled.

FootJoy say the Pro SL is their most performance-driven spikeless golf shoe to date – which for the market-leading brand is a big call.

The FootJoy Pro SL follow on from the DryJoys Casual which have been one of the most popular spikeless golf shoes among tour pros and club golfers.

You could argue that while the performance and comfort of the DryJoys Casual was unquestionable, they maybe lacked the style and premium feel you may expect from the price tag.

But the FootJoy Pro SL seem to take everything that is good about their predecessors but improve on that further and add a huge dose of shelf appeal.

FootJoy Pro SLAdam Scott began testing the FootJoy Pro SL as early as the 2015 US Open at Chambers Bay.

Fellow tour players soon got jealous and began making enquiries.

Lee Westwood and Andrew Johnston were quick to put the new shoes into play with Bernd Wiesberger, Louis Oosthuizen and Kevin Na among the other early adopters.

So what makes the FootJoy Pro SL so good?

The FootJoy Pro SL combines a soft, comfortable, waterproof upper with a midsole/outsole unit that features three distinct layers for underfoot comfort, ultimate perimeter stability, and performance spikeless traction.

FootJoy have once again used outsole material called Fine-Tuned Foam (FTF) which provides enhanced cushioning and shock absorption for added comfort.

The top layer of FTF, which cradles the foot, is a softer to provide all day comfort.

The lower/outer portion is firmer in order to deliver perimeter stability around the foot for maximum support throughout the swing.

Thirdly, TPU traction elements are strategically placed within the FTF outsole material to provide golfers with enhanced traction, lateral stability and more points of ground contact.

“I tested Pro SL initially in the very dry, hard conditions of Chambers Bay then in the soft, wet conditions at St Andrews and the traction was fantastic on both surfaces,” said Adam Scott.

“I also felt like my feet had more surface contact with the ground and for a longer time during my swing, so competing in this shoe is a no-brainer.”
