Equipment news: Manassero signs with Callaway

The BMW PGA Champion becomes the latest new addition to the Callaway team

Callaway Golf has today confirmed it has signed young European Tour star Matteo Manassero to join its tour staff.

The 20-year-old Italian has earned global recognition since he first came onto the scene with a victory at the 2009 Amateur Championship – becoming the first Italian and youngest player in history to win the tournament.

Manassero then added the Silver Medal to his collection after finishing as the leading amateur at the 2009 Open at Turnberry.  He also became the youngest player at 16 to make the cut at the US Masters, where he finished 36th in 2010 – the best performance by a European amateur for 73 years.
Manassero – I’m looking forward to starting the 2014 season with my new clubs at Volvo Golf Champions this week. The Italian was also the youngest winner in European Tour history thanks to his victory in the 2010 Castelló Masters at 17 years and 188 days, and he has won on Tour in every year since then, with a prize victory coming in the 2013 BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Commenting on his move to Callaway, Manassero said: “After testing lots of different products, I am very happy to be joining Callaway and I am really excited to use their whole range of equipment. I’m looking forward to starting the 2014 season with my new clubs at Volvo Golf Champions this week.”

Neil Howie, president of Callaway Golf Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “Matteo is a great signing and is reflective of the more youthful, contemporary direction we are taking with the overall brand.  We are all hugely excited to welcome him to the Callaway family and feel confident he will be able to add to his already impressive portfolio of victories based on the combination of his natural talent and the exciting new products we have for 2014.”
