Dubai Desert Classic Fantasy Golf picks

This week the European Tour heads to Dubai following Shane Lowry’s fantastic win in Abu Dhabi at the weekend.

Last year, Haotong Li pipped Rory McIlroy after a fantastic third of 64 handed him a one shot lead heading into the final day.

Despite falling two shots behind after 10 holes, Li managed to match the Northern Irishman’s final round of 69 to take the title.

The aim of our fantasy game this year is to pick the right players to match the RankBuster. This week’s is set at 192 so who can you fit in your team to beat it? Here are my Dubai Desert Classic Fantasy Golf picks.

Rafa Cabrera Bello

Fantasy Rank: 5

Cabrera Belloe boasts an impressive record at this event over the last three years with his lowest being a T11 finish in 2017. Last year, a third round of 64 put him in contention but he failed to capitalise on it with a final round of 70.

The Spaniard also comes off the back of a T11 finish at last week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship so makes perfect sense to be a leading pick this week.

Byeong Hun An

Fantasy Rank: 17

In his last two starts at the event the South Korean at Emirates Golf Club he has finished inside the top 10 with a T6 and T4 finish to his name. Even better, his lowest finish at the event in the last five years was a T13 finish in 2015.

However, there is concern as he missed the cut in Abu Dhabi last week.

Alexander Bjork

Fantasy Rank: 21

I picked Bjork for last week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and he delivered a T32 finish.

Looking back at last year’s event, the Swede managed a T6 finish so it is hard to overlook him once again.

Eddie Pepperell

Fantasy Rank: 30

Pepperell form isn’t the best at this event but at such a high price it’s hard to ignore him.

The Englishman finished in a T49 after starting the final day in T25 with a final round of two over par plummeting him down the leaderboard.

Bernd Wiesberger

Fantasy Rank: 37

The Austrian looked set to finish well last weekend, as like Pepperell, he sat on six under par and inside the top 25 heading into the weekend.

However, Wiesberger stalled and shot one over par for the weekend, finishing T42.

He also has an impressive record at Emirates GC and has made the cut in his last six appearances at the tournament with his best finish being his T4 finish in 2015.

Miguel Angel Jimenez

Fantasy Rank: 89

Miguel comes into the event having finished T19 last year but was just one shot from finishing inside the top 10 as 13 finished T6.

In his last outing on the Champions Tour in America, the 55 year old finished T25 with a score of five under par.

Can the Spaniard roll back the years and finish well this week?

Through his 4-iron to Gap Wedge, Matthew uses the Ping i500 irons accompanied by Ping’s Glide 3.0 56-degree and 60-degree wedges.

Another club that has stood the test of time in his bag is a Nike Method Core MC-3i putter which has had to have the SuperStroke grip changed at least three times. Ball of choice is the Titleist ProV1.
